In this critical Senior Software Engineer role, you will be a responsible for the overall health and execution of software delivery in a highly -performant distributed environment for distributed applications on Optum's cloud platform. Your technological guidance will serve as the crux of a successful transition into a Platform and Software as a Service Model across a variety of responsive web and native applications.
You will own our build/deploy/release pipeline including the associated tool chain and will help to drive efficiency and consistency in our processes. In this role, you will help build a mentality of Excellence within our Engineering competency by defining best practices in Software Engineering from solution through production, and ultimately help change the face of health care and help people live healthier lives.
You will be responsible for developing modules and providing contributions to the overall architecture of the OptumRx Consumer Health Portal / Mobile and related systems. This role will include hands on development and code reviews for major initiatives. You will work with a variety of teams including offshore development, BA, QA, user communities and business partners.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support multiple development teams in delivery of hundreds of RESTful apis on a high-performance, resilient cloud platform, across multiple environments
Own the build/deploy/release process and find ways to automate and improve our pipeline at every step
Be a mentor and guide other teams in navigating the software delivery lifecycle
Bring innovative ideas to help continuously improve the OptumRx Portals platform including the build, deploy, test and runtime cloud ecosystems
Participate in debugging and performance tuning in a distributed, high performance cloud platform
A great attitude and the passion and persistence to solve complex problems
Managing development of Capital Projects
Supervising and guiding team members
Hands on web and API development
Workforce planning, assignment planning and resource management
Work with Business and IT groups to ensure successful delivery of projects
The successful candidate will have experience in the development of distributed systems, extensive technical skills, good communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.
We are looking for a rock-star Senior Software Engineer with the following skills:
Experience building and shipping production software in a scaled distributed environment
Solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals (based on a BS or MS in CS or related field)
Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Deployment Strategies
Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical colleagues

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
6+ years Java J2EE programming experience
2+ years of hands-on experience with Spring & Hibernate
Experience with SQL, including writing stored procedures
2+ years of experience with JUnit testing
5+ years of experience developing web service applications
3+ years of experience developing HTML/Javascript
Previous experience leading a team of Java developers
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate Degree
Experience developing public-facing websites
Knowledge of Content Management Systems
Experience with WebSphere or JBOSS
Experience with RESTful Web Services
Knowledge of a variety of modern programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Objective C, Rails, Node.js, NodeJS), open-source technologies (Angular, Hibernate), and database technologies (Oracle/MySQL)
Experience developing Unit Tests using tools such as JUnit, NUnit, MSTest to verify your code quality
Experience in the building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Experience working with NoSQL database technologies (Hadoop/Mongo)
Experience with Identity Management/Authentication Protocols (Single Sign-On, SAML, OAUTH)
Desire to continuously improve and evolve our infrastructure to be easy to deploy, scalable, secure and resilient
