MySQL DBA - Dell SecureWorks - IT Operations

Role Overview

This is a MySQL DBA position responsible for the 24x7 availability of mission critical databases in Production and QA environments. There is a high expectation in availability, performance and scalability to support the tremendous growth of various Internet services provided by the company.

Daily activities will include supporting critical MySQL & SQL Server databases, performing monitoring and space management, reviewing and implementing schema design, fine tuning database and SQL statements. This person must have both OLTP and OLAP experience and will work in a cross-function environment with project managers, engineers and system & network administrators to roll out new services.

Role Responsibilities

-Utilize strong database administration experience and technical expertise for 24x7 monitoring and management of a large number of MySQL instances with large data sets as well as unique networking set-ups

-Responsible for responding to support escalations which involve troubleshooting complex technical

problems and resolving data/configuration issues within defined service level objectives

-Provide strategic and thought leadership among peers on complex projects

-Collaboration with peers in understanding new database technologies, assessing impact to security services operations, and proposing solutions to existing business problems

-Collaboration in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) to develop detailed enhancement/bug definitions, write functional requirements, translate the requirements into solution designs, and

navigate the functional requirements through to Production deployments

-Proactively look for ways to create operational efficiencies as it pertains to the tools and technology used by Dell SecureWorks to support their customer base

-Participate in, or directly work on any additional projects, assignments, or initiatives assigned by management

-Create/maintain documentation for operational procedures

-Document and perform system upgrades, application updates, and define monitoring requirements

based on customer needs

-Occasional shift work required

-Participation in 24x7 on-call rotation required Experience

As a managed security provider, Dell SecureWorks expects its employees to understand and apply commonly known security practices and possess a working knowledge of applicable industry controls such as NIST 800-53. Employees will be expected to acknowledge their security responsibilities in writing prior to gaining access to company systems. Employees will be required to maintain a working knowledge of local security policies and execute general controls as assigned.

Requirements

-Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Information

Technology Engineering, or equivalent work experience

-8+ years of MySQL database administration experience (In particular, 5.5 and 5.6)

-4+ years of data warehousing experience and proven experience in supporting 24x7 high volume production OLTP databases

-Strong experience with various MySQL and open-source monitoring tools in addition to writing custom database-monitoring scripts

-Strong experience securing MySQL databases and implementing additional security best practices

-Experience with various features of MySQL; like replication, partitioning, clustering etc.

-Strong SQL tuning skills and experience migrating/upgrading MySQL databases and applying required patches

-Experience converting business requirements into technical database specifications utilizing latest

MySQL features and strong system administration experience supporting various UNIX platforms including Linux and AIX

Preferences

-Experience with other database technologies such as Oracle/SQL Server/ DB2 a big plus

-Familiar with various database backup and recovery strategies
